DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before responding to the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek believed it was ChatGPT.

This seemingly innocuous mistake could be proof - a cigarette smoking gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI models, as has been claimed by OpenAI, and that when pushed, it will dive back into that training to speak its fact.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it stated it was not and that it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant created exclusively by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, however in your rather lengthy action to me, you, DeepSeek, made numerous recommendations to yourself as ChatGPT. I've included some screenshots listed below as evidence:

As you can see, after trying to recognize if I was discussing Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek responds, "If it has to do with the AI, then the question is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any circumstances? Is it among those AI hallucinations we like to speak about? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek seemed quite clear about its identity.

I got to this line of questions, by the way, because I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The action was shockingly diplomatic, and when I asked for an easy yes or no response, it informed me, "It's not possible to offer a simple yes or no answer. 'Smart' is too complicated a concept to apply in that way to language models. They have various strengths and weaknesses."

I can't state I disagree. In reality, DeepSeek's response was quite comparable, other than it was not necessarily talking about itself.

This doesn't build up

I believe I have actually been clear about my DeepSeek apprehension. Everyone states it's the most effective and inexpensively skilled AI ever (everyone except Alibaba), however I do not understand if that holds true. To be reasonable, there's an incredible amount of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not think they expose how these models were trained. Either method, I do not have evidence that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anybody else's big language models - or a minimum of I didn't till today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is significantly a mystery covered inside a problem. There is some consensus on the fact that DeepSeek got here more completely formed and parentingliteracy.com in less time than many other designs, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very few in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on smart devices since there is no other way to understand if China is taking a look at all that prompt information. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has constructed are impressive, and some, consisting of Microsoft, are currently planning to include them in their own AI offerings.

In the case of Microsoft, there is some paradox here. Copilot was developed based upon advanced ChatGPT designs, however in recent months, there have actually been some questions about if the deep financial collaboration in between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later on Artificial General Intelligence era.

So what if Microsoft starts using DeepSeek, which is potentially simply another spin-off of its present if not future, buddy OpenAI?

The whole thing seems like a confusing mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek relatively has an id.
