Path of Exile 2 has a habit of hiding real killers behind pretty normal-looking enemies, and Areagne, The Forgotten Witch, is one of those that catches people off guard fast when they’re focused on farming PoE 2 Currency. She does not get the big story-boss intro, there is no huge health bar warning you she is dangerous, but her spells hit just as hard as anything you have seen in the main acts. If you stroll in thinking she is just another side mob, you’ll eat a teleport combo and wonder what just erased half your life, then the rest of it a second later.



Finding The Forgotten Witch
You run into her out in Grelwood, tucked away in this grim little shack on the western edge by the river. It looks like the start of a side quest, not a boss fight. You walk in, see a woman on the floor, and for a second you think, alright, maybe there’s some dialogue here. Nope. Step a bit closer and she screeches, blinks out of sight, and the vibe changes instantly. That is your sign to get out of the hut. The actual fight happens outside, and you really want that space. Before you pull her properly, clear the werewolves and any other nearby packs, because trying to dodge her spells while wolves chew on you is how most players lose their first attempt.



Her Damage Pattern And Spells
People see “witch” and instantly think fire res, maybe a ruby flask, job done. That is how you get flattened. Her cold damage is what really stings. She has an Icy Breath cone that covers more ground than you expect and can freeze you on the spot. Once you are frozen, you are basically waiting for the follow-up hit to finish the job. On top of that, she drops Frost Sigils all over the ground. These pulse cold damage and force you into weird positions, so you are always dancing around bad zones instead of just circling her. Every so often she swaps pace and throws out a delayed fire ring that expands from her position. The warning is obvious, but if you are chilled or half-pinned by her sigils, suddenly that “easy dodge” turns into a mad scramble where people panic flask and still get clipped.



How To Actually Fight Her
To make this fight feel fair, you lean into movement, not just raw armour or life. Standing still, even for a second too long, gets you punished. Ranged setups feel amazing here: bow builds, brands, trap or mine characters can kite her all over the open area. She tries to close the gap with short teleports, kind of blinking right next to you if you give her a line, but if you keep stutter-stepping and do not commit to long wind-up skills, she struggles to land her biggest hits. Melee can do it too, but you need to think in quick bursts: jump in, dump a small combo, then dash out before the Icy Breath or a sigil cluster locks the ground down under your feet.



Is She Worth Farming?
For a side encounter, she pays out surprisingly well, which is why players keep going back once they work her out and have their PoE 2 Items for sale goals in mind. Besides the usual mid-tier stuff like Rope Cuffs and basic currency orbs, she drops Uncut Support Gems pretty reliably. That is huge early on: sometimes you slot one straight into your build and feel the power jump, other times you just stash or sell them for some quick profit if the trade market is active in your league. She ends up being this perfect test dummy that can absolutely kill you if you get lazy, but once you respect the mechanics, she turns into a repeatable loot check that is way safer than banging your head against a campaign boss on a hardcore character.
